DoubleShot™ Yellow Red Heart Snapdragon Seeds

Days to Maturity: 70 to 91 direct sow; 42 to 49 from transplant

All-America Selections (AAS) Ornamental Seed Winner 2025

Snapdragon DoubleShot™ Yellow Red Heart is a short-lived tender perennial Zones 7-10, typically grown as a cool-season annual. Strong, tall, and heavily branched, the plant reaches a mature size of 18 to 20 inches tall and about 12 to 16 inches wide—ideal for back of the border, and it requires no staking. An early bloomer, it sets large flower spikes dense with rosette-shaped blooms from late spring through autumn, typically to first frost. The romantic, open-faced semi-double flowers have ruffly yellow petals and a red heart. Long-lasting and wind-resistant, the candy-scented spikes attract bees, butterflies, hummingbirds, and other beneficial pollinators to the garden; but they also make excellent cut flowers for casual bouquets or mixed floral displays.

An Antirrhinum majus cultivar, commonly called snapdragon, DoubleShot Yellow Red Heart has an upright habit that's perfect for adding a tall accent to a cottage garden. But it looks its best when grouped or massed in garden beds, borders, or containers. DoubleShot Yellow Red Heart snaps are a must-have in a butterfly and cutting garden.

Easy to grow from seed, DoubleShot Yellow Red Heart grows best in a sunny to partially sunny spot with moist, organically rich, freely draining soil, but any good garden soil will do. If soil is compacted, add some compost. DoubleShot Yellow Red Heart snap has excellent frost and light freeze resistance, so it extends the growing season. It also holds up well to summer heat better than most. Fertilize during the growing season for optimal growth, and deadhead frequently throughout summer to keep plants blooming. Deer typically leave snapdragons alone.

If you plan to start your snapdragon seeds indoors, plant DoubleShot Yellow Red Heart seeds in the Bio Dome Seed Starter Kit 6 to 8 weeks before last frost date. Bio Dome allows you to control the temperature, light, and soil mix, ensuring your seeds become strong for transplant. Gradually acclimatize seedlings outdoors over 7 to 10 days and transplant them in the garden after all risk of frost has passed.
