Vaccinium 'Sunshine Blue' Dwarf Blueberry

Call it the "ultimate edible ornamental." With a dense, rounded, compact habit—only 3- to 4-feet high and wide—of beautiful, glossy silvery-green leaves, Vaccinium 'Sunshine Blue' Dwarf Blueberry seems just about perfect, especially for blueberry lovers. In spring, enjoy a proliferation of pink flowers followed by sumptuous blueberries in early to midsummer (June). But the joy continues after the berries are gone as the leaves turn a gorgeous shade of purple red in fall.

Each petite plant of Vaccinium 'Sunshine Blue' Dwarf Blueberry bears anywhere from 5 to 10 pounds of the most delicious, dime-sized, dark blue berries you will ever taste. The flavor is sweet and juicy, totally unlike the berries you buy long after harvest at the grocery store.

Self-pollinating (so you need only grow one plant) and more tolerant than most of soil with a high pH, Vaccinium 'Sunshine Blue' Dwarf Blueberry is exceptionally easy to grow. It's a southern highbush type with a low chill requirement—only 150 hours—which means it's great for the South. However, it's very hardy as far north as Chicago, too.

Best in full sun and slightly acidic, well-draining soil rich in organic matter.
