Thuja Cheer Drops™

A Proven Winners® ColorChoice® variety, Thuja Cheer Drops™

Thuja Cheer Drops™ brings year-round texture and reliable form to your garden with zero effort. This evergreen cultivar of American arborvitae (Thuja occidentalis) maintains a naturally compact, teardrop shape that requires no pruning. Its soft, flat sprays of vibrant green foliage are dense and refined, offering a fresh, architectural look that stands out in mixed borders, foundation plantings, or privacy screens.

Growing slowly to about 18 feet tall and 8 feet wide, Cheer Drops™ offers strong vertical interest without overwhelming the landscape. Its symmetrical, upright habit makes it a perfect substitute for traditional columnar evergreens, and it even works beautifully as a living "thriller" in a large container display. This variety is ideal for formal or naturalistic landscapes, providing structure and color year-round.

Cheer Drops™ thrives in full to part sun and moist, well-drained soils, including loamy or clay-based types. It's tolerant of a wide range of conditions but does not perform well in drought. Once established, it requires little maintenance and rarely needs pruning. If shaping is desired, prune in late spring or early summer when new growth is soft; avoid cutting into thick stems to prevent permanent scarring.

Shop our full selection of thuja trees or explore evergreen trees.

Deer typically avoid Thuja, but no plant is completely immune. Monitor young trees and take precautions when food is scarce.
