It has long, fleshy leaves that are stiff and strappy, similar to a hyacinth.
Scilla is native to the Western Mediterranean region and grows best in similar warm, arid climates. In colder climates, the tender bulbs are best grown in containers and protected indoors in the fall. The plants stay dormant only a short time.
