Hymenocallis 'Sulphur Queen' Peruvian Daffodil Bulbs

Royal Horticultural Society Award of Garden Merit

Hymenocallis 'Sulphur Queen,' also known as the Peruvian daffodil, blooms from late spring to midsummer with uniquely exotic flowers. Each 18- to 24-inch stalk produces 2 to 3 trumpet-shaped blooms with frilly-edged soft yellow cups, six long ivory petals, and emerald-green throats. Their strong citrus-like fragrance, especially in the evening, draws pollinators, such as bees, hummingbirds, and butterflies to the garden.

This tropical beauty is a tender perennial hardy in Zones 8-11 and thrives as a naturalizer in warmer climates. In cooler regions, 'Sulphur Queen' can be lifted and stored over winter or grown as an annual. Its compact growth habit and striking flowers make it an excellent choice for borders, garden beds, or large patio containers. Indoors, it flourishes in decorative pots of at least 3 gallons.

'Sulphur Queen' grows effortlessly in sunny to partly shaded areas with moist, well-draining soil rich in organic matter. Water generously during the growing season but keep the soil dry while dormant. With its low-maintenance care and natural pest resistance, this is a garden favorite.

Plant bulbs after the last frost when the soil is consistently warm, spacing them 18 to 24 inches apart and planting 2 inches deep.
