Aquilegia Artisian Blend Columbine

Aquilegia Artisian Blend brings together four delightful columbine varieties—Pink Barlow, Black Barlow, Blue Barlow, and Ruby Port—for a colorful spring display. These compact perennials, ranging from 12 to 36 inches in height, bloom profusely in spring, producing spurless, fully double flowers in shades of pink, black, blue, and ruby red. The frilly blooms are supported by sturdy stems rising above a mound of delicate, fern-like foliage. Ideal for butterfly and cutting gardens, these blooms attract pollinators, such asbees, butterflies, and hummingbirds while creating exquisite spring bouquets.

Featuring Aquilegia vulgaris varieties, commonly called columbines, granny's bonnets, or crowfoots, Artisian Blend thrives in Zones 3-8. These versatile perennials fill the gap between spring bulbs and summer-blooming plants, making them perfect for mass plantings in cottage gardens, rock gardens, and shaded borders. They naturalize beautifully without taking over, providing vibrant ground cover after their blooms fade. While their foliage will naturally die back in summer, their impact in the garden lasts throughout the season.

Easy to grow and deer resistant, Artisian Blend columbines thrive in sunny to partially shaded areas with well-draining, medium moist soil. Deadhead spent flowers to encourage continued blooming.

For best results, plant columbine roots in spring, burying them 1½ to 2 inches deep and spacing them 12 to 18 inches apart.
