Clematis 'Elizabeth'
Clematis montana varieties are probably the easiest clematis to grow and are some of the most vigorous growers, quickly reaching 30 to 40 feet long and spreading 6 to 10 feet wide, growing best in Zone 5 and south.
Clematis Elizabeth blooms in May and June. Its soft pink flowers have a lovely sheen and vanilla fragrance. It is so floriferous the multitude of 2- to 3-inch single blooms almost entirely engulf the foliage, which emerges bronze and turns mid-green as it ages.
This deciduous climber flourishes when planted in full sun to partial shade, in moist, well-drained soils. It resists clematis wilt, repels deer and rabbits, but attracts butterflies. It belongs to pruning group 1, requiring no regular pruning.
